You can usually discharge yourself AMA. You must waive your right to sue for anything that happens after you leave. You can't leave AMA if you're legally someone else's responsibility. Only the legally responsible party can make an early discharge decision.
What happens if you check yourself out of the hospital?

Can you refuse a discharge?
Refusing a Proposed DischargeIf you are unhappy with a proposed discharge placement, explain your concerns to the hospital staff, in writing if possible. Ask to speak with the hospital Risk Manager and let them know you are unhappy with your discharge plan.
